Make Sure You Complete a College Grant Application
If you are currently a college student or are planning to go to college you will have a keen sense of how much it costs to get a good education. It is worthwhile to go into debt to pay for college but if you can reduce the amount you have to pay when you graduate it will make things a lot easier for you. The best way to go about doing this is to take advantage of any grant money that might be available to you. If you were to work out how much money it was worth to you for the amount of time spent, making sure to fill out every available college grant application might be the best hourly wage you make for a long time.
The most important application that you will do is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is available on the web or from your school’s guidance office. This is the college grant application that will help to determine if you are eligible for a Pell Grant. It’s one of the most common grants, intended to assist lower income students. It is also used for many other types of college funding including Stafford or Perkins loans.
If you do qualify for a Pell Grant, you may also be eligible to receive an academic competitiveness grant or a SMART Grant. They are basically the same thing, the former for freshmen and sophomores and the latter intended for juniors and seniors. They are a little more difficult to get as there are tougher academic standards and not all courses qualify. If you think you might be a candidate, this is even more incentive to fill out your college grant application as soon as possible.
Each state offers hundreds of different grants. Part of the difficulty is that each one may not require the same college grant application. You will find that much of the information is the same from one application to the next so it won’t take much time to fill out subsequent applications. You can check out your state college funding website to get all of that college grant applications you can. You may get some helpful assistance from your government.
