Finding funding for college can certainly be a burden on a family. If you college and scholarships have been looking at going to college you probably already know how much it is going to cost and not many people can simply pay out of pocket to attend. There are a number of different options that you can pursue when it comes to paying for your education including grants, loans and scholarships. It is important to apply it to anything you might be eligible for, but it is also wise to try and sniff out anything that might be a scam.

There are a number of so called consultant companies that will help you apply for financial aid. For the most part, they will help you fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. They may entice you by saying that they guarantee $2500 in loan money. You should be aware before you sign up with them that the application is called free for a reason; you can even get a copy on the Internet. The $2500 is something that pretty much everybody can get as a loan when they go to college. If you are already in financial need, it is probably prudent to save your money and do some research yourself.

There are actually more scholarships out there than you can imagine. Did you know that you can actually get a scholarship for writing a weblog? You can also get one for doing your thesis on Harry S. Truman. You can get them for your gender, being part of a minority or for showing interest in community development to name just a few. Obviously, there is no way to give an exhaustive list but this gives you an idea of how many there are out there.

There are stranger ones than that, so take the time to peruse the Internet and find anything that you might be eligible for. If your parents work for a large company, there may be scholarships available through their employer. They would likely have to be the ones to ask, so you should get on their case about this as soon as possible. Once you are in college, and you will be happy about every dollar that you have found.
